Smelling good is one of the key components of being a gentlemen. To say that a cologne shelf must always be well stocked is an understatement. The importance of products such as Tommy Hillfiger’s Eau De Prep or Brooks Brother’s Royal Rugby cannot be understated. Cologne is only a small part of true gentlemanly hygiene, though. Anyone can quickly spray themselves on the way to the country club or prep school reunion. Even on the golf course, this holds true. The real challenge comes before a gentlemen gets dressed, before he even steps out of the shower.

Shampoo and body wash are two products that are often overlooked when the conversation topic turns to men’s fashion essentials. Any true gentlemen, though, will remind you that personal hygiene is truly important and should never be overlooked. Given the amount of time we spend taking care of our hair and styling it just right, it seems only natural that we give appropriate consideration to the types of shampoo and body wash we use. While showering every day, do you often to stop and think about the products you are putting into your hair and letting wash all over your body? Most of us would probably answer no and that’s completely fine. These are matters worth thinking about, though. After all, these products are the foundation of our personal hygiene.

What types of shampoos should we gentlemen be using? Well, American Crew is certainly a popular choice. I can personally attest to the fact that it is a great product. Recently, I’ve been using a kind made by Dove, but I expect I’ll be going back to it soon. Head and Shoulders is a brand that comes very high recommended, particularly if you have damaged hair that you’re trying to take care of. For those of us who are constantly on the move, a two in one shampoo/condition combination sometimes makes sense. Axe, famous for its body sprays, also features great shampoos, conditions, and combinations. Sometimes these products even double as a body wash. Talk about ideal, particularly if you’re the type who showers in the morning on the way to work. If you’re looking for a true body wash product, though, you can’t go wrong with a classic brand such as Irish Spring. Of course, if you want to smell like power, there’s always Old Spice and we already been over just how much brands like Axe have to offer. Regardless of your brand choice, though, be sure to always be prepared with shampoos and body wash products. Hygiene is absolutely essential to any gentlemen and it starts in the shower.
